IPA – Promoting Psychology... Supporting Psychologists

The Indiana Psychological Association is an association that has represented the interests of psychologists since 1937.  The first association was organized in 1937 by Dr. C.M. Loutitt who was then director at Indiana University.  We were renamed in 1950 to the Indiana Psychological Association to indicate that the organization was to support all areas of psychology as a science and as a profession within Indiana.

We invite you to not only join IPA, but also to participate as a member.  IPA provides a conduit for networking with colleagues and for promoting the science and practice of psychology within the state of Indiana.  The main areas of activity for the association are continuing education, legislative advocacy, and professional development.  This organization is where an individual voice can and does make a difference, and it is up to our members to define our priorities.

Currently, IPA is operated by a relationship between the Indiana Mental Health Association and the Board of Directors.  MHAI became the association manager for IPA in October 2003.  Since then, the Board of Directors and MHAI have been redefining our roles and responsibilities, and it is important for IPA members to recognize that they have several key MHAI professionals who are managing the organizational demands.
